Hungry rather than thirsty: the drive technologies.
Efficiency and dynamism have long gone hand in hand at Mercedes-Benz.
The CLS 400 with V6 petrol engine, twin turbochargers and a displacement of 3.5 liters succeeds in combining low fuel consumption with a further substantial increase in output. In particular, the engine speed range across which the maximum torque is available ensures high-level driving dynamics with relatively low rpm.
The integrated electric motor, known as EQ Boost, provides additional torque and power over short periods to assist the combustion engine. This supplies the battery with power by means of high-efficiency recuperation. By doing so, it makes possible fuel savings that were previously the exclusive domain of high-voltage hybrid technology. Overall, the new in-line six-cylinder engine offered on the CLS 450 4MATIC and CLS 53 4MATIC+ delivers the performance of an eight-cylinder engine with significantly lower consumption.
